GOLF

Welcome to my golf page.

As a youth I harbored serious ambitions in this game, but reality settled in around high school when I began to perceive the depth of talent and accomplishment out there in this sport. Surely, since the Tiger Woods era that is even more the case today than it was then. I have enjoyed playing a bit of tournament golf over the years as well as recreational rounds. I have included some facts and figures here below, I hope for your amusement as much as my own.

Ledgerock Golf Club Men’s Club Championship (2007): winner by 2 strokes

Berkshire Junior Club Championship (3 times).

Hawley Quier Memorial (1999): second place by 1 stroke to Zack Amole (77-73).

Berks County Match Play Championship (1998): Finalist. Runner-up to Joe Cala (2 and 1).

Current handicap: 1.

Approximate average score: 77.

Some of my best 18-hole rounds:

Berkshire Country Club (par 36-35-71)

33-34-67, 35-33-68, 34-34-68

Gleneagles (Monarch, Nicklaus), Par 72, white tees: 34-36-70.

Adare Manor (R.T. Jones). Par 72, blue tees: 36-35-71.

Best 18-hole rounds in medal tournament play:

36-34-70 at Berkshire Club championship, 2001.

37-34-71 and 35-37-72 at Berkshire Club championship, 2002.

38-35-73 at Moselem Springs, Hawley Quier Memorial (par 70), 1994.

37-36-73 at Moselem Springs, Hawley Quier Memorial, 1999.

 Best 9-hole scores:
3 under par. (numerous)

Best consecutive 9 holes:
5 under par. In the Berks Amateur 1999 at Moselem Springs. Birdies on 13, 16, 18, and then 2 and 3.

Most consecutive birdies: 4 (twice).

Eagles on par 4’s:

Hole 8, Wigwam Resort, Gold Course, AZ, 435 yds.

Hole 18, Brookside Country Club, PA, 255 yds (several).

Hole 10, Golden Oaks Golf Club, PA, 410 yds.

Hole 17, Moselem Springs Golf Club, PA, 410 yds.

Hole 7, Berkshire Country Club, PA, 330 yds.

Hole in one:
January 2009, hole 11, “The Raven”, Country Club of San José, Los Cabos, Mexico. 205 yards, 3-iron.

Fewest putts in a round:
9-11-20 (Brookside CC, Pottstown PA, 2002).

Most greens in regulation in a round: 16 (several times).

My best putts: both 15-footers, left-to-right. One of them one a club championship, and the other was to save 99! Each one important in its own way.

Weirdest round ever: Brookside CC, Pottstown, PA. I was 9-over through 6 holes after a ball came to rest on #6 under a fallen tree leaving no good options and a disaster. On #8 a desperate wedge shot from the woods hit a tree, bounced onto the green and rolled into the hole for eagle. With a followup birdie on 9 and a 1-under on the back, I managed a 5-over 77.
